BERLIN- Several teams from the local Beach Lacrosse program are heading to Baltimore this weekend for Lax Splash 2007, widely considered the largest lacrosse tournament in the world, and a handful of teams will have the opportunity to defend their titles from last year’s event.

Lax Splash, played at several different venues in lacrosse tradition-rich Baltimore, last year featured 332 teams and over 6,500 players from all over the mid-Atlantic area and this year promises to be even bigger. Beach Lacrosse will send several boys and girls teams at many different age groups and skill levels and will be well represented at the annual showcase.

Last year, three Beach Lacrosse teams won their respective division championships and the hope is they will have a shot to defend their titles this year. Three other Beach Lacrosse teams reached the finals in their respective divisions last year. Building on a groundswell of momentum that started several years ago, Beach Lacrosse continues to make its presence felt at Lax Splash and similar tournaments throughout the region.

Last year, the 11/12 girls’ team coached by Peck Miller and Kim Hardt won the “B” division title, beating Falston in the championship game, while the 13/14 girls’ team coached by Cathi Coates also won its “B” division championship. On the boys side, the 11/12 team coached by Jeff Ricks also brought home Lax Splash tournament hardware, taking the title in the “C” division.
