OCEAN CITY – An illegal hobby shared by a mother and daughter from Brooklyn, Md. resulted in criminal charges last week in Ocean City.

On Jan. 17, during a routine business check of the Holiday Inn on 17th Street, Ocean City police officers detected an odor of burnt marijuana on the 11th floor of the hotel. The smell filled up the hallway and the officers were able to narrow the odor to one room. The officers knocked on the door for approximately three minutes before a male answered. The man said his girlfriend, her mother and his father were in the room.

The girlfriend, Lauren Ashley Mason, 21, and mother, Nancy Lee Mason, 46, admitted to having marijuana. Nancy Mason showed police two marijuana joints she had in her purse. Lauren Mason showed police a Baggie of pot as well as four joints. Each were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance-marijuana.
