William Russell Matthews

BERLIN – William Russell Matthews, "Bill", age 74, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Russell Edmund Matthews and Mary Hargis Scott Matthews. He is survived by his wife, Katie Belle Gaskins Matthews.

He was an electrical design engineer having worked for Hurst & Associates and Ox Pond Industries. He was a member and trustee at Buckingham Presbyterian Church, an avid postcard, Santa Clause, lunch box, sand pail and tin toy collector as well as an antique enthusiast.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, William Edgar "Ed" Matthews and his wife Debbie of Springfield, Va., Russell Scott Matthews and his wife Stephanie of Manassas, Va. and Mary Lynn Driggers-Malloy and her husband Joe also of Manassas, Va.; eight grandchildren, Mindy Matthews, Michael Matthews, Blake Matthews, Marcus Matthews, Robbie Driggers and his wife Melissa, Katie Driggers, Matthew Driggers and Mary Driggers; and two step grandchildren, Julia Malloy and Sean Malloy. He was affectionately known as "G-Pa". Also surviving is a sister, Winnie Small of Pocomoke City; a nephew, David Small and his wife Cindy of Dover; a great nephew, Trey Small, and a great niece Jessica Small, both of Delaware; and numerous Hurley and Harrington cousins of Cambridge.

A funeral service will be held of Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at Buckingham Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Main St., Berlin, MD 21811. Interment will follow in Buckingham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1107 Kenilworth Dr., Suite 202, Baltimore, Md. 21204-2136.

Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Myrna Kay Reid

PARKSLEY, Va. – Myrna Kay Reid, age 48, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of Everett and Shirley Harrold Donaway.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Harry Reid; her children, Richard Lee Reid of Princess Anne, Daniel Edward Reid of Snow Hill, Joanie Marie Laird of Fruitland, Suzannah Evans of Chincoteague; step-sons, James Robert Fluhart of Westminster and William Joseph Fluhart of Onancock, Va.; 18 grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Fay Gaunt of Parsonsburg; two brothers, Johnny Ray Donaway of Ft. Meyers, Fla. and David Lee Donaway of Berlin; numerous nieces and nephews; and her best friend, William Dennis Fluhart and his loving mother, Lola Fluhart of Parksley, Va. She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Allen Donaway, and a granddaughter, Cassidy Reid.

Services were held at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Pastor Phillip Timmons officiated. Interment was in Dale Cemetery in Whaleyville.

Janet Berkov

OCEAN PINES – Janet "Snuffy" Berkov, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin from complications following a hip fracture.

Born Aug. 10, 1926 in Johnstown, Pa., to Nevin and Madeline Rishell Smith, she graduated from Penn State, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, with a degree in English. She later earned her Master’s from the University of Pittsburgh. She and Walter Berkov married on June 14, 1949.

She worked as a school librarian, reading tutor, and book reviewer. In 1987, she and Walt moved to Ocean Pines, after his retirement from The Cleveland Plain Dealer. In retirement, she learned to draw and sang in the Worcester Chorale and The Pine Tones. She also loved reading, doing The New York Times Sunday crossword, swimming, and walking the trails at Assateague.

Berkov leaves two daughters, Ellen Berkov of Severna Park, Md., and Amy Berkov of New York City. Her husband died in 2006.

An informal celebration of life gathering is planned for Saturday, Oct. 17. For details please email [email protected]. Patrick Jude Tracey

OCEAN CITY – Patrick Jude ‘Bomber’ Tracey, 41, of Ocean City and formerly of Charleroi, died Friday, July 31, 2009 in Ocean City.

Born Dec. 8, 1967 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Paul C. and Gloria Steinberg Tracey of Charleroi. He was a resident of Ocean City for the past 22 years where he lived and worked with his brother at Phillips Crab House in Ocean City as the chef and kitchen manager. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, the Sleepy Owl Fishing Club, member of Holy Savior Catholic Church and former member of Mary Mother of the Church, Charleroi.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Paul A. Tracey of Ocean City; two sisters, Judith Tracey of Ocean City and Mary Theodora Tracey of Charleroi; niece Margaret Mary Tracey of Charleroi; aunt and uncle Toni & Gene Saladna of Belle Vernon; four cousins Gigi Saladna, Mary Beth Shipman, Toni Saladna and Gene Saladna; and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Pennsylvania. Funeral services were entrusted to the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home. Memorial services and mass were celebrated in Ocean City on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at Holy Savior Catholic Church followed by a luncheon at Phillips Crab House at 21st Street.

Wesley Theodore Moger

OCEAN CITY – Wesley Theodore Moger, "Ted", age 80, died surrounded by family on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at his home in Ocean City.

Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Wesley Otto Moger and Helen Cathleen Wilson Moger. He is survived by his wife, Edna M. Moger.

He had been a plumber foreman with Wallmark Brothers for over 30 years.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul L. Moger and his wife Mary Anne; two daughters, Mary A. Moger and Terri A. Werle; a brother, Gary M. Moger and his wife Linda; three sisters, Jackie Petro, Kay Lako and Karen Alexander; six grandchildren, Larry, Tammy, Paul, Kevin, Matthew and Rebecca; and nine great grandchildren, PFC Nichols, Sara, Brandie, PJ, Savannah, Paul, Joey, Leianna and Makayla.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Joseph Clarence Parker

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Joseph Clarence Parker, age 79. of Georgetown, Del. passed away on August 9, 2009 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del.

He served 33 years with J.C. Penny as an advertising manager. He was a skilled display manager who created excellent arrangements.  He loved the outdoors, and flowers, water, and the ocean. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Clarence & Elva West Parker.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Thompson Parker; daughter Susan Lisa Parker of Georgetown, Del.; six brothers, Ralph and Richard, of Laurel, Del., Dale of Blades, Del., Jerry, Donald and James of Georgetown, Del.; and three sisters, Janet Ware of Georgetown, Del., Patricia Harris of Seaford, Del., Doris Moore of Laurel, Del.

Services were held at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del.
