BERLIN- The Berlin Dolphins youth football teams each started their 2009 seasons in much the same way as they ended their 2008 campaigns, with disappointing hard-fought losses against a couple of good teams.

The Berlin Dolphins play in the Salvation Army League against teams from communities all over the Lower Shore. The Dolphins’ Juniors, ages 11-13, lost to the Salisbury Vikings, 13-6, last weekend in a tough, defensive contest during which both teams struggled to get their offenses going. The teams were separated by just one score throughout the back-and-forth contest. Berlin scored its only touchdown after recovering a fumble.

Meanwhile, the Berlin Cadets, ages 7-10, found themselves in a similar struggle against a much-improved Pocomoke team. The Cadets’ offense struggled to get its offense going throughout the game, but started moving the ball late in the fourth quarter when their best drive of the day was derailed by a couple of untimely penalties. Pocomoke scored a late touchdown with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter to extend its lead to two scores, ending any chance for a late comeback by Berlin.
