Third Time Not the Charm for Seahawks

BERLIN- The third time was not the charm for Decatur’s varsity baseball team this week as the Seahawks fell to rival Bennett, 6-0, on Wednesday in the state Class 3A-East region semifinals.

The Seahawks beat Northeast, 4-3, at home on Monday to advance in the region tournament, but looming in their way to a potential regional title game appearance was old rival Bennett, who beat Decatur two times during the regular season. On Wednesday, the Clippers shut out Decatur again, 6-0, allowing just four hits. Meanwhile, Bennett played little ball against Decatur, scratching out six runs of a variety of sacrifice flies, stolen bases and passed balls.

On Monday, Decatur advanced with a 4-3 win over Northeast, with the big blast coming on a two-run HR by Dallas Harrington in the second. Teron Tyre also drove in a run with a ground rule double in the fifth.
