Blood Drive Next Week In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY — For each of the 50,334 people on Delmarva who took the time to donate lifesaving blood over the past year, there are about 20,000 recipients across the Peninsula who may have been thanking them as they were ringing in 2012.

It is in that spirit of sharing that the Blood Bank of Delmarva, aligned with blood banks all over the nation, celebrates National Blood Donor Month this and every January.

“While we sincerely hope that our donors know how much we appreciate them all year long, National Blood Donor Month allows us to more formally thank those who give blood and save lives,” said Roy Roper, President and CEO of Blood Bank of Delmarva. “It also provides a reminder to the public that donating blood during the winter months is very important.  It’s critical that we maintain a stable blood supply through inclement weather and flu season, and that requires a consistent flow of donors every day.”

Those on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland have an added opportunity to donate at the 14th Annual Beach Blanket Blood Drive at the Ocean City Convention Center on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The 2012 theme is “OC Saves!” honoring the thousands of lives saved by blood donors at this event over the years. To schedule an appointment to give blood, call 1 888 8-BLOOD-8 or visit www.delmarvablood.org.
