County Man Dies In Late-Night Crash

SNOW HILL — A Snow Hill man lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on a rural road in southern Worcester County early Thursday morning.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday, Maryland State Police troopers from the Berlin barrack responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on northbound Route 12 in the area of Pike Lane. The preliminary investigation indicates a 1999 Honda Civic operated by Justin Lee Lewis, 26, of Snow Hill, was traveling north on Route 12 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left  the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Evidence revealed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Lewis, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of medical personnel. The deceased has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The contributing factors of the collision are still being determined and the investigation is ongoing.

The northbound lane of Route 12 was closed for about three hours. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Girdletree Fire Department assisted with the investigation.
