Va. Teen Killed In Route 50 Accident

BERLIN — Route 50 was shut down for approximately four hours Wednesday night as a result of a fatal accident east of Berlin.

On July 6, around 8:51 p.m., Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack troopers were called to the scene of a vehicle on fire in the median of Route 50 near Grays Corner Road.

According to press release from MSP, the preliminary investigation found that the 2004 silver Infiniti G35, driven by Nicolas Lawrence Quental, 19, of Manassas Park, Va., was traveling westbound on Route 50 when for unknown reasons the vehicle traveled into the grassy center median and struck a tree, ejecting the driver and causing the vehicle to become engulfed in flames.

Quental, the sole occupant, was pronounced deceased upon arrival of first responders. The family has been notified.

“The contributing factors to the collision are still being determined,” according to the MSP press release. “The investigation is ongoing.”

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Worcester County Bureau of Investigation, State Highway Administration, Maryland Office of Chief Medical Examiner, Ocean City Fire Department and the Worcester County Crisis Response Team assisted with the investigation.
