BERLIN – The Town of Berlin will host its 3rd Annual Touch-a-Truck event Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The event, which was originally scheduled for May 7, will take place at the Stephen Decatur Park in Berlin.

The town will have police and fire companies present, along with dump trucks, back hoes, utility vehicles, restored military transport vehicles and more.

Perdue Farms will also have tractors on display for the public.

In addition to these displays, kids and adults of all ages will be able to partake in K-9, electric, water supply, and pole setting demonstrations.

The town will give attendees the opportunity to ask questions and interact with local police officers, firemen, and public works employees and the vehicles and equipment they use on a daily basis.

Attendees will also be able to touch and operate pieces of equipment and will be given the opportunity to move sand with truck buckets that are on site, according to Tim Lawrence, electric utility director for the town of Berlin.

Lawrence says members of the community do not usually see what the workers do every day.

“The purpose is to educate the public on what we do in our day-to-day lives,” says Lawrence. “We work for the taxpayers, and so we are giving back that day.”

Lawrence compares this event to a career day for kids. Those interested in becoming firefighters, utility workers, police officers and more can see how these jobs operate.

Other groups, such as the Red Cross, will also be in attendance.

SonRise Church will provide food and moon bounces for the event.

The Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks Department will be hosting its own “Big Truck Day” the same day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ocean Pines Veterans Memorial Park.

Big Truck Day will include similar vehicles and concession stands.

For more information on Berlin’s Touch-a-Truck event, go to the event’s Facebook page or visit berlinchamber.org and click on the events calendar.

Information on Ocean Pines’ Big Truck day can be found at oceanpines.org under the “events” section.

Both events will be free to the public.

In the event of rain, Berlin’s Touch-a-Truck will be moved to Sept. 17.
