Seahawks Top Pocomoke To Improve To 10-1

4/27/2007 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's varsity baseball team hammered visiting county rival Pocomoke, 13-3, on Tuesday to improve to 10-1 on the season.

The Seahawks got out to an early 7-3 lead but the outcome was still very much in question until the bottom of the fourth inning when Decatur batted around and scored four runs to extend the lead to 11-3. With bases loaded and just one out, Kyle Pruitt laced a single to left center scoring two runs to push the lead to 9-3. The next Decatur batter reached on an infield single, scoring a runner from third to make it 10-3.

After another infield single loaded the bases again for the Seahawks, Brian Hudson hit a hard grounder to second which could have been an inning-ending double play, but the Pocomoke second baseman bobbled the ball just long enough to allow the fourth run of the inning to score, making it 11-3. Decatur added another run in the fifth on a double in the gap by Dominick Favazza after a lead-off walk to make it 12-3 and the Seahawks went on to win the game 13-3.

Max Marks got the win for Decatur, going six strong innings. Hudson and Pruitt each drove in three runs in the win. The win over Pocomoke was the Seahawks' 10th of the year against just one loss. Decatur lost to Bennett, 5-4, last week for their only blemish on an otherwise perfect season.

Decatur played Crisfield last night in a game played too late to be included in this edition and will face Washington on the road this afternoon. After that, the Seahawks play a pair of home games next Tuesday and Wednesday against Mardela and Parkside.
