OCEAN CITY - The Cruisin' and Oktoberfest events combined with sunny and warm weather attracted thousands to the resort area last weekend, and Ocean City is looking to continue to the great start to the fall season with another popular event coming up this weekend.
Looking ahead to the weekend of Oct. 12-14, there are plenty of activities on tap as Corvette enthusiasts toll into town for the Free State Corvette Club's 21st Ocean City Corvette Weekend.
The annual event, which typically attracts about 700 Corvettes of all makes and models to Ocean City, starts with a welcoming party tonight at the Holiday Inn on 66th Street and gets kicked into high gear on Saturday afternoon with the Boardwalk Parade of Corvettes starting at 4:30 p.m.
In addition to the parade, the club will be conducting three fun car shows, two road rallies and a dinner and awards banquet with trophies awarded to all of the successful winners from the car shows and road rallies.
In the fun shows, the Corvettes are separated into classes chosen by the host club. Entrants then vote for their favorite car in each class, except their own class. There will be three shows conducted simultaneously - the Single Fun Show, the Spina Bifida Fun Show and the Celebrity Judge Fun Show.
There will be two rallies operated simultaneously as well. The Single Rallye will be a Poker Rallye and if participants register for the Double Rally they will be doing the Single Poke Rally in addition to a Gimmick Rallye. Trophies will be awarded in each class.
Portions of the proceeds from the Corvette weekend festivities will be donated to the Spina Bifida Association of Maryland and other area charities.
See The Dispatch on Friday for all the week's top stories, photographs and more.
