Flag Football Action Heating Up

10/05/2007 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department's Fall Flag Football League is hitting its early season stride with a full slate of games at Northside Park. The following is a look at some recent league action:

(bullet) Greene Turtle 25- Crab Cake Factory 6: Allen Hawk threw for three touchdowns, including two to Brett Case, and ran for one score to lead the Turtle over the Crab Cake Factory. Hawk started with a 35-yard TD pass to Case and ran for a 17-yard score. He then threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Todd Spiegle and finally another 27-yarder to Case. Steve Fawler ran for an 18-yard TD for Crab Cake Factory's only score.

(bullet) Kirby's Pub 20- Three Brothers Pizza 0: Bart Talbert threw three touchdown passes to Todd Mohr including a 12-yarder, a nine-yarder and a 40-yarder to lead Kirby's over Three Brothers. On a sad note, Mohr's three touchdowns came just hours before he was killed in a car accident.

(bullet) Tequila Duffybird 33- Century Carpets 0: Chase George led Tequila Duffybird with three touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown. George started the scoring with a 16-yard TD pass to J.R. Emmanuel and then ran for four-yard touchdown. George then hit Dennis Eade with a seven-yard TD pass and connected with Mike Richardson on a 36-yarder. In Tequila's final score, Richardson intercepted a pass and lateraled the ball to Eade who took it in for the score.

(bullet) Greene Turtle 33- Century Carpet 14: Allen Hawk spread it around, hitting Todd Spiegle, Brett Case and Tommy Jesson with touchdown passes and ran for one himself. Joe Pino and Neil Kiernan each had touchdown runs for Century Carpet in the loss.

(bullet) Blue Ox 27- Crab Cake Factory 6: Ryan Gartland did it all for the Blue Ox, throwing two touchdown passes to Todd Barshinger and one each to Joe Perry and Rob Bryan. (bullet) Buxy's Salty Dog 27- Kirby's Pub 26: This battle between traditional league powers came down to double overtime with a missed two-point conversion the difference in the game. Bart Talbert started the scoring fest with a four-yard TD pass to Steve Lewis, but Buxy's answered with a 36-yard touchdown run by Patrick Spicer. Kirby's scored again on a 39-yard strike from Talbert to Trey Stokely, but Buxy's answered again with a seven yard TD pass from Nick Jones to Frank Rimmil.

In the first overtime, Kirby's scored first on a 10-yard run by Talbert, but Buxy's tied the game again on a two-yard TD pass from Jones to Kurt Purnell. Each team scored in the second overtime, but Buxy's made its extra point and Kirby's attempt at a two-pointer failed.
