Seahawks Remain Unbeaten, Top Snow Hill 7-2

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's varsity baseball team continued its early season dominance this week, routing county rival Snow Hill, 7-2, at home on Monday to improve to 4-0.

On Monday against Snow Hill, Decatur jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second, but the Eagles went ahead, 2-1, in the top of the third with a long fly ball that just barely missed clearing the high fence in left field at Decatur.

Decatur scored two more in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead, which was all the Seahawks would need on a day when Lucas Koenig was dominating at times on the mound. The score remained 3-2 through the middle innings until the Seahawks tacked on some insurance runs late in the game to seal the 7-2 win.

Koenig went four innings, scattering four hits and striking out five. Brian Hudson homered and Chris Bunting and Will Lewis each went 2-3 at the plate. Koenig helped his own cause, going 2-4 at the plate.

The win over Snow Hill was relatively close for Decatur, which dominated its first three opponents of the season last week. The Seahawks pounded Crisfield, 17-3, in the season opener last Tuesday behind Josh Tyndall, who allowed one run on just three hits.

Last Thursday, the Seahawks thrashed Washington, 22-2, with another dominating performance on the mound and at the plate. In the Washington game, Decatur's Troy Bennett pitched a four-hitter striking out nine. Marshall Betts was the big hero at the plate, going 2-3 including a grand slam and five RBIs.

On Friday against Cambridge-South Dorchester, the Seahawks prevailed, 8-1, as Will Lewis threw a complete game four-hitter.
