Indictment In Pocomoke Murder

SNOW HILL - A Worcester
County grand jury this week indicted Charles Robert Phillips, 28, of
Pittsville, for the murder of a 77-year-old Pocomoke man in his home in early
March.

On March 13, the Worcester
County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) arrested Phillips in connection with the
murder of William Nibblett, 77, of Pocomoke. Phillips was initially charged
with first-degree murder, robbery, burglary and assault and was held without
bail pending a scheduled initial appearance on April 11. However, the grand
jury indictment on Tuesday abates the need for the preliminary hearing for
Phillips.

Around 5 p.m. on March
6, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office responded to Nibblett's home in
Pocomoke in reference to a death investigation. Nibblett's daughters had gone
to his home to check on him after not hearing from him that day and found him
stabbed to death on the floor in the living room. He was last seen the day
before around 4 p.m. After the investigation pointed to Phillips as a suspect,
he was arrested and charged with the murder.

On Tuesday, the Worcester County grand jury indicted Phillips on
charges of first-degree murder, robbery, armed robbery, theft and carrying a
dangerous weapon with intent to injure. The first-degree murder charge carries
a maximum sentence of life in prison, while the robbery charge carries a
15-year sentence and the armed robbery charge carries a 20-year sentence.
