Worcester Prep Hands Out Spring Sports Post-Season Awards

BERLIN- Worcester Prep recently honored its spring sports student-athletes with an awards banquet during which several individuals were recognized for their efforts on the fields and courts this season.

All of the Worcester Prep spring sports teams enjoyed successful seasons this year and many of the standout individuals were recognized for their contributions. From the boys' varsity lacrosse team, goalie Christian Coates was honored with both the Most Valuable Player award and the Coach's Award, while Brad Harris was named Most Improved.

From the girls' varsity lacrosse team, goalkeeper Melanie Leiner was named Most Valuable Player, while Tory Dickerson was honored with the Coach's Award. Anna Townsend was also recognized as the team's Most Improved player.

Worcester's boys' and girls' tennis teams also enjoyed successful 2008 campaigns and many individuals were recognized for their accomplishments on the court. From the women's varsity tennis team, Brittany Marshall was named Most Valuable Player, while Marie Enderle received the Coach's Award and Kasie Moyer was named Most Improved.

From the boys' varsity tennis team, Ross Roessler was named Most Valuable Player, while Tom Barranger received the Coach's Award and Ryan Ruppert was named Most Improved.

Three special student-athletes from Worcester were inducted into the school's prestigious 12-Letter Club, whose members earned a varsity letter in three sports in each of their four years in high school. Added to the 12-Letter Club this year were seniors Daniel Bunting, Jessica Smith and Max DiFillipo.

The Mallard coaches also honored the top players from the junior varsity and middle school teams during the recent awards ceremony. Nikki Carpenter was named Most Valuable Player on the girls' junior varsity lacrosse team, while Laura Breslau received the Coach's Award and Megan O'Donnell was named Most Improved.

From the boys' junior varsity lacrosse team, Austin Gerachis was named MVP, while Hunter Harman and Jeffrey Andresen were honored with the Coach's Awards and Zak Schmidt was named Most Improved.

The future looks bright for the spring sports teams at Worcester with dozens of talented young players filling out the rosters at the middle school level. On the girls' middle school lacrosse teams, Kelly Chandler was named MVP for the 'A' team, while Mallory Richards was named MVP for the 'B' team. Marybeth Fisher received the Coach's Award for the A team, while Elise Harmon received the Coach's Award for the B team. Most improved honors went to Mary Regan (Lacrosse A) and Ellie Brown (Lacrosse B).

From the boys middle school lacrosse teams, Alex Ternahan was named MVP for Lacrosse A, while Matthew Middleton was named MVP for Lacrosse B. Ross Perim received the Coach's Award for Lacrosse A, while William Wangel earned the Coach's Award for Lacrosse B. Most Improved for Lacrosse A went to Zach DiFillipo, while Matteo Petrera was named Most Improved for Lacrosse B.
