The Worcester County Commission for Women sponsored the annual McGuffey Bookworm Program on Monday, June 2. The Worcester County Commission for Women purchases book bags and books for summer reading for all Worcester County students in grades kindergarten through three. Students promised to read their books, take good care of them and to share them with friends. Above, Laura Black's kindergarten students are shown making that promise.

Ocean City Elementary School was the first school in the state to achieve 100 percent proficiency in mathematics and reading, as measured by the 2007 Maryland School Assessment (MSA). The accomplishment has sparked the interest of educators across the state, as well as in the United States Department of Education (USDE).
