Human Remains Recovered In Woods
WEST OCEAN CITY - The identity of the human skeletal remains discovered in a densely wooded area in West Ocean City last Friday remains unknown this week as investigators continue to search for clues about the deceased.
Around 2:15 p.m. last Friday, Maryland State Police troopers responded to a heavily wooded area just west of Sinepuxent Rd. at Route 611 in reference to the discovery of human skeletal remains. Workers conducting perk tests on the densely wooded property found the human remains and reported the discovery to the state police. The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) was then brought in to take over the investigation.
The remains were turned over to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and identification purposes. The deceased is described as a white male, roughly 5'6' to 5'10' tall, in the range of 30 to 40 years old with brown hair.
According to police reports, no foul play was involved with the victim's death. Based on evidence found in the area of the remains, the victim appeared to have been homeless. There was trash and other property found nearby that indicated the victim was likely living in the woods. According to initial estimates, the victim has been deceased for at least a couple of months.
