BERLIN- The Berlin 7-8 Little League All Stars remained unbeaten in the early tournament season, sweeping the Willards Little League Pitching Machine Double Elimination Tournament last weekend for their second championship in as many weeks.
Two weeks ago, the Berlin Little League 7-8 team won the Fruitland Little League All-Star Tournament, going a perfect 4-0 including a dramatic 7-6 win over host Fruitland in the championship game. Last weekend, the Berlin team repeated the remarkable feat, sweeping five straight games including a 10-4 win over West Salisbury for their second straight title. After two early tournaments, the Berlin Little League 7-8 team is a perfect 9-0 with two championships.
Berlin started the tournament with a game against the Fruitland team it beat in the championship a week earlier and won a tight game, 2-1, with a walk-off single. Berlin then beat county rival Snow Hill, 12-5, before wrapping up the first day of the tournament with an 8-4 win over West Salisbury.
On Sunday, Berlin opened play with a semifinal game against East Wicomico. Both teams came into Sunday unbeaten, but Berlin coasted to a relatively easy 10-1 win to reach the championship game for the second week in a row. West Salisbury won the other semifinal to earn a rematch with Berlin, but Berlin, buoyed by the confidence of an earlier 8-4 over its championship opponent, cruised to the title with an 8-4 win to sweep the tournament and remain unbeaten.
