OCEAN CITY - Bike Week 2009 in Ocean City barely got officially underway yesterday before the first accident associated with the event sent one participant to an area hospital after a collision with a delivery truck on Coastal Highway.
Shortly before 10 a.m. yesterday, an unidentified biker collided with a delivery truck on Coastal Highway near 59th Street, according to Ocean City Police. The victim was transported to the Jolly Roger Amusement Park on 32nd Street before being flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with undisclosed injuries.
According to Ocean City police spokeswoman Jessica King, little was known late yesterday about the victim including age and gender, but the victim's injuries did not appear life threatening.
'It sounds as though it was not a terribly serious accident,' she said. 'The victim was not seriously injured and was flown to PRMC by helicopter mainly as a precaution. From what I've been told, the victim will likely be treated and released.'
