BERLIN
- Two Berlin men were arrested last week on numerous drug distribution charges
after a search and seizure were executed at three separate locations in town
resulting in one of the most significant cocaine busts in recent Worcester
County history.
The
Worcester County Sheriff's Office criminal enforcement team recently concluded
a 10-month cocaine distribution investigation in the Berlin area. On April 26,
as a result of the investigation, a Worcester County grand jury indicted Tyrone
Darnell Lawson, 37, of Berlin, on multiple drug charges including distribution
of cocaine.
Last
Thursday, the sheriff's office criminal enforcement team executed search and
seizure warrants at three separate Berlin locations Lawson was suspected of
utilizing for his alleged drug distribution activities. At one location alone,
detectives recovered 1,750 grams of cocaine and 59 grams of marijuana, along
with packaging materials consistent with dealing. According to a sheriff's
office release, the cocaine seizure is considered to be one of the most
significant in recent history in Worcester County.
Tyrone
Lawson was subsequently arrested for charges related to the seizure as well as
the indictment handed down by the grand jury. Also arrested was Tony DeAngelo
Lawson, 43, of Berlin. Tyrone Lawson was charged with 10 counts stemming from
the cocaine bust last Thursday as well as three other counts related to the
grand jury indictment. The charges against him range from simple possession to
possession with intent to distribute and from distribution in a school zone to
conspiracy to distribute cocaine-large amount. He is being held in the
Worcester County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Tony
Lawson was charged with 10 counts related to the search and seizure warrants
carried out last week including possession of cocaine and marijuana, possession
with intent to distribute, distribution in a school zone and conspiracy to
distribute. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
Multiple
local, state and federal law enforcement agencies assisted with the search and
seizure warrant service including the Worcester County States Attorney's
Office, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, the Wicomico County Narcotics
Task Force, the Worcester County Narcotics Task Force, the Berlin Police
Department, Maryland State Police Canine Unit, the federal Bureau of Alcohol
Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration
(DEA). This investigation is still ongoing.
