Mallards Snuff Flames, End Skid

1/14/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team downed Greenwood Mennonite, 47-35, on Monday to end a four-game skid dating back to before the holiday break.

Going into Monday’s game with the Flames, Worcester had dropped two in a row since returning from the holiday break and four straight dating back to a December 9 loss to Salisbury Christian. Last Wednesday, the Mallards lost a heartbreaker to Holly Grove, 45-42, in overtime, followed by a 53-47 loss to ESIAC rival Salisbury School on the road last Friday.

On Monday, however, Worcester righted the ship and got back in the win column with a 47-35 win over Greenwood Mennonite. The Mallards led by just one point at the half, but wore down the Flames in the second half and cruised to the 12-point win. Ryan Nally led Worcester with 19 points and six assists, while Andrew Ternahan scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and contributed five steals.

With the win, the Mallards’ record improved to 5-6 on the season. Worcester will host Gunston this afternoon. The Mallards beat Gunston, 56-41, back in November.
