Decatur Track Teams Strong in Regionals

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams made a strong showing at the state Class 3A-East Region meet in Baltimore on Tuesday with the boys finishing fourth overall out of the 14 teams represented and the girls finishing sixth.

For the boys’ team, defending state champion pole vaulter Bradley Hollowell took first in the event in the 3A-East regionals on Tuesday, while Dan Cericola finished second. Cordonte Ayres also enjoyed a successful meet with a second place finish in the 300-meter and a sixth in the 55-meter dash. The Decatur boys also did well in the relays with a fifth place finish in the 4x400 and a sixth in the 4x200. Other notable outcomes for the Decatur boys included a seventh place finish in the 800-meter by Chris Hurley, an 11th-place finish in the 300 by Kyle Kelly.

The Decatur girls also enjoyed a successful meet with several Top 10 finishes in various events. Layla Fowler was third and Ravyn Saunders finished fourth in the 500, Jessica Galuardi was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles, and Kelly Cosgriff was 10th in the 1600. In the relays, Decatur finished 6th in the 4x200, fifth in the 4x400 and third in the 4x800. In the high jump, Decatur’s Annie Brown was ninth and Lydia Logan was fourth in the pole vault. Janet Davidson was 7th in the shot put, while Ameerah Lewis was 9th.
