Pottery Place Now Funky, Fun And Fabulous In Rehoboth, Too

OCEAN CITY – The Pottery Place has served Fenwick Island for nearly 40 years with a vibrant assortment of home and garden décor and has now expanded its charm to Rehoboth Beach.

The Pottery Place was established by Sandy Flynn in 1972. Wife and husband Kimberly Flynn, Sandy’s daughter, and Jeff Laros now run the Fenwick Island store and the new Rehoboth Beach location.

“Along with the Sandy Flynn wow factor, we have just continued to import products from all over the world,” Kimberly Flynn said.

Both Pottery Place locations provide a large variety of décor and great prices, selling everything from pottery, terra cotta, fiberglass planters, stepping stones, bronze fountains, cement statues, bird baths, chimineas and cast iron planters to nautical, African, and tropical décor accent furniture, silk florals, housewares, greeting cards, and even chimes. Some of their products are shipped from all over the world, for example their large containers of pottery from Malaysia.

“The Fenwick store has a steady flow of regulars of 39 years,” Flynn said. “The Rehoboth location really embraces an electric neighborhood. Everything about this community is just electric and fun.”

Flynn said that having a store in Fenwick Island and Rehoboth Beach has worked out in serving the Pottery Place’s loyal clientele. Fenwick’s customers that have traveled from the Lewis and Rehoboth area now conveniently shop at the new location. The Pottery Place also delivers for free to local areas, even Salisbury.

“Since January, we have had over 50 deliveries in pottery and fountain setups,” Flynn said.

Flynn said it is hard to compare the two locations because they are both so different. The Rehoboth location focuses on the “funky fun and fabulous”. She described the shop as more of a boutique because it includes fun novelties and books as well as home décor. There is also a “yellow brick road” that leads to the different departments of the store, and a flower decal path that leads to the pottery yard.

“I got to have a start fresh here,” Flynn said. “We knocked down all the walls, painted all the walls, made this funky pattern of floor tile, and it’s just different. You come in here on a rainy day and it’s like sunshine, it just pops.”

“This community is so networking,” Flynn said. “We sponsored a few films at the independent film festival and just from introducing a movie…it is amazing how it just spread like wild fire.”

Flynn explained that during the film festival she passed out invites to the Pottery Place’s Black Friday event. The event offered a certain percentage off merchandise, it was a fundraiser, and it was catered including beer and wine.

“It was amazing because it was the first year that I had it up here and I killed it,” she said.

Flynn plans to continue the Black Friday event and said that this year there will be a sale that no one will expect. Also, Matt Haley of SoDel Concepts will be cooking on the deck of Pottery Place in Rehoboth for its Grilling on the Deck event on June 25 from 4-6 p.m. The event will feature a sale as well.

The Pottery Place of Fenwick Island and Rehoboth Beach remains famous for Mexican suns and chimineas, which are their most popular items.

The Fenwick Island location is also famous for its Perks Espresso Café, which Flynn said makes it almost impossible to get into the store on a Saturday morning because of the coffee bar.

Local restaurants such as the Shark and Micky Finns in West Ocean City and the Lobster Shanty in Fenwick Island display an array of the store’s merchandise.

She added that this summer season has already been busy and it’s just kicking off. The Pottery Place is open mostly year round, seven days a week. This summer the Fenwick location’s hours will be 7 a.m-7 p.m. and the Rehoboth location will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
