Bank Of Ocean City Opens Students Safe Deposit Box

In 2001, the Bank of Ocean City asked local second graders, “What will the world look like in 2011?”  The students were asked to write essays on the subject, and they were locked in a safe deposit box for 10 years.  The bank placed $1,000 in an account which collected interest of $399.61. Another $1,000 would be matched once the time capsule was opened. The rules of the contest required the winner, at time of opening, to be a resident of Worcester, Wicomico or Sussex counties and be accepted or enrolled in college. The lucky winner was Matthew Carey of Seaford, Del., who was a Worcester Preparatory School student and enrolled at Johns Hopkins University. Presenting the $2,400 scholarship check is Executive Vice President Reid Tingle and Vice President Kathy Drew.
