BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls varsity soccer team got off their 2011 season off to a fast start with a pair of shutout wins including a 3-0 win over Easton on Monday.
The Seahawks are now 2-0 after the early shutout wins. On Monday against Easton, Decatur got balanced scoring with goals by Tori Whigham, Liz Rougcher and Joanne Petito, who also dished out two assists. Ashley DePaul was outstanding in the net, recording 10 saves, to keep the team’s shutout streak alive.
Monday’s win came on the heels of Decatur’s 4-0 win over North Caroline in the season opener last week. In that contest, Decatur got two goals from Whigham along with single goals from Rougcher and Jenna Abbattacchio, while Taylor Frederick contributed a save. Again, DePaul wa strong in goal with 12 saves. The Seahawks face Kent Island on the road on Monday.
