9/16/2011 | By Publisher/ Editor, Steven Green

ASSATEAGUE- - Assateague officials this week announced the deadline for public comment on the proposed General Management Plan (GMP), which will shape the future of the barrier island for the next 15-20 years, has been extended to Oct. 1.

Superintendent Trish Kicklighter on Tuesday announced the deadline extension on Tuesday. The new GMP will establish a vision for the National Seashore and provide greater guidance for its management for the next decade or two. The National Park Service is inviting the public to comment on the preliminary management alternatives and options for how the park service will go about managing and protecting Assateague’s resources while continuing to provide high quality recreational opportunities.

Comments can be submitted to www.parkplanning.nps.gov/asis, or written comments can be sent to Assateague Island National Seashore, Attention GMP Team, 7206 National Seashore Lane, Berlin, Md. 21811.
