BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity soccer team won a pair of games over Wicomico this week, beating the Indians, 6-0, on the road last Wednesday and scalping the Indians again by the same 6-0 score at home on Monday.
On Monday, the Seahawks picked up where they left off against Wicomico, getting out to an early lead against the Indians on a goal by Tori Whigham just 10 minutes into the contest for an early 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 for much of the first half as the Seahawks had opportunities against the Indians, but just couldn’t seem to punch it through. Jillian Petito scored for Decatur just before the half as the Seahawks took a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Decatur started the second half in much the same way as it started the first on a goal by Alycia Skarsinski just seven minutes into the third period for a 3-0 lead. Nearly 20 minutes went by before the Seahawks got on the board again, this time on Petito’s second goal of the contest to extend the lead to 4-0.
With just over 10 minutes remaining in the game, Decatur’s Rebecca Lederman found the back of the net to increase the lead to 5-0. Skarsinski added Decatur’s final goal with just over two minutes left in the game to round out the 6-0 win, Decatur’s second over Wicomico in as many games. With the win, the Seahawks’ record improved to 5-3-1.
