School Sidewalk Work Begins

10/28/2011 | By Publisher/ Editor, Steven Green

BERLIN -- The Worcester County Health Department in collaboration with the State Highway Administration (SHA) this week began projects to build and replace sidewalks, cross-walks, signage and adding ADA ramps in order to improve the accessibility and safety of students and parents in getting to and from the schools in Berlin and Snow Hill.

The $118,006 contract for the sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvements was awarded by Worcester County to Image Asphalt Maintenance, Inc. of Pasadena, Md.  The work began this week and will take approximately four weeks, weather permitting, and should be completed by Nov. 30.

The work at Berlin Intermediate School will take place on Franklin Avenue between Route 113 and William Street.  In Snow Hill, the work will be primarily on Coulbourne Lane approaching and in front of the elementary, middle, and Cedar Chapel schools.  The work in both communities will start around 9 a.m. and end at approximately 2:30 p.m. in order to not interfere with school operations.  There may be some work done on Saturdays or during after school hours to help expedite the completion of the project.
