Discovery Center To Host Winter Watermen’s Fest

12/02/2011 | By Publisher/ Editor, Steven Green

POCOMOKE -- The Delmarva Discovery Center (DDC) in Pocomoke is getting ready to end 2011 with a special celebration and bring in the New Year with three diverse events.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, the DDC’s will be celebrating local heritage with the second annual Winter Watermen’s Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local watermen will share their stories from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., musician Ron Cole will play Eastern Shore favorites. Enjoy free tempting samples of seafood and Eastern Shore favorites from local restaurants like Bill’s Seafood, Upper Deck, Don’s Seafood and Chicken House, Bay Queen Galley, Watermen’s Inn and the Crusty Crab.

Bishop’s Stock will also be on hand with wine and gifts. See local artists at work, meet authors and take advantage of a fun holiday shopping opportunity.

This event is free with paid admission to the museum. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 4 and up. If you are a local, consider our family membership $40. Two adults and every child under 18 in the household may enter the museum on this membership for a year. Most events are free with a membership.

The DDC is planning to start the new year with a bang, planning the following events.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, the DDC welcomes the Aquarium on Wheels students from the National Aquarium, Baltimore for an original children’s play entitled “Pirates of the Chesapeake”.

The play is about a group of pirate invasive species who are trying to steal the jewel of Charm City. The entire script, costumes, backdrop, and accompanying discovery lab (games) are all created by the students. Meet local artists and authors as well. Children can make a craft/

Jan. 14 is a special day at the Delmarva Discovery Center for Pocomoke City residents. If you have always wondered what’s inside of the Delmarva Discovery Center, or love the museum and want to give a special donation, this is your day. For Pocomoke residents only, on Jan. 14, the Delmarva Discovery Center will be open to the public and all officials ask is that you make a donation.

Each person will be given an envelope upon entry and return the envelope when they leave with whatever amount they choose to give inside.

On the evening of Jan. 28, the DDC will hold a formal fundraiser with live and silent auctions. This is a chance to dress your best and support a very special museum. For details on all events, or to donate items for the fundraiser auction, contact 410-957-9933 or check out www.delmarvadiscoverycenter.org.
