Seahawk Track Teams Finish Strong

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams turned in strong performances again in their latest meet last week, with the girls finishing second and the boys finishing third.

The Decatur girls finished second overall in team score with 78 points, while Cape Henlopen was first with 117. Layla Fowler had a strong meet, finishing first in the 500-meter dash and second in the 300. Chloe FauntLeroy was second in the 800, while Rayvn Saunders finished fifth. FauntLeroy also finished fourth in 1,600.

Lauren Buckman was third in the 3,200. Jessica Galuardi finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles, while Isabella Iampieri was fifth. The Decatur girls also dominated the relays, finishing first in both the 4x800 and the 4x400. In the field events, Ameerah Lewis was second in the shot put, while Annie Brown finished third in the high jump and Alexandra Saunders was sixth.

The Decatur boys finished third overall in their sixth meet of the year with 92 team points, while Caesar Rodney was first with 101 and Milford was second with 95. Greg Petersen turned in a strong performance, finishing first in the 55-meter hurdles and first in the high jump. Spenser Cardenas was third in the 55-meter hurdles, while Tyler Coppinger was fifth.

Petersen was second in the triple jump, while Cardenas was fifth. James Mapp came in first in the 300, while Chris David was third and Dan Winters was fourth in the 500. Tyheam Purnell was third in the shot put, while Zach Witters was sixth overall in the pole vault. The Decatur boys were also strong in the relays, finishing first in the 4x400 and second in the 4x800 and the 4x200.
