6/29/2012 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester County’s representatives fared well last weekend in Maryland’s Hershey Track and Field Championships in Gaithersburg with one local athlete sweeping his three events and winning the meet’s MVP award.

After Hershey Track and Field championship meets in different regions across Maryland last week, the top two finishers in each local event were invited to the Maryland State Championships in Gaithersburg last Saturday. Colton Edmunds, 12, of Berlin, (pictured with his medal) won all three of his events at the state championship meet including the 100-meter, the 200-meter and the standing long jump, and was named the meet’s MVP.

His sister Charlotte, 9, also competed, placing second in the softball throw and sixth in the 50-meter dash. Luke Crisanti, 9, of West Ocean City, competed in the 50-meter dash, the 100-meter and the standing long jump. Brooke Phillips, 8, of Ocean City, competed in the 100-meter.

Other local kids who competed and fared well in Hershey’s Maryland championships last Saturday included Kamar Morton, who finished second in the long jump in the 11-12 age bracket; Kiasia Collins, who finished second in the softball throw in the 13-14 bracket; and Malachi Mazzetti and Charles Sheppard, who finished first and second respectively in the softball throw in the boys’ 9-10 bracket.
