Decatur Extends Win Streak to Five

5/06/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity baseball team stayed on a major roll this week, blanking Washington High, 11-0, on Tuesday for its fifth straight victory.

Just about everybody got in the box score for the Seahawks on Tuesday during the 11-0 rout of the Jaguars. Mike Malloy had two hits and drove in four runs, Mike O’Neill had two doubles, drove in two runs and scored twice, and Kyler Clifton had two hits including a home run while driving in two and scoring three times. Pitcher Steve Ruggierie went the distance on the mound and struck out eight Jaguars, while helping his own cause at the plate with a double and two runs scored.

The 11-0 win over Washington continued a late season surge for Decatur, which has now won five straight to improve to 11-4 on the season. Last Friday, Decatur beat Crisfield, 15-2 and topped Mardela, 8-4, last Wednesday. The win streak also includes a pair of wins over county rival Pocomoke, including a 23-2 win last Friday and a 13-1 shellacking just before the Easter break. During the current win streak, the Seahawks have outscored their opponents by a combined 70-9.
