BERLIN- Stephen Decatur boys' and girls' indoor track teams made a strong showing this week at the state Class 3A-East Region meet with top 10 team finishes on both sides and several notable individual accomplishments.
Decatur's indoor track teams traveled to Prince George's County on Monday and Tuesday for the state 3A-East Region meet and came away with several team and individual honors. The Decatur girls finished 6th overall as a team in the regional meet with 21 points, while the boys finished seventh with 30 points.
For the Seahawk boys, the number six was a recurring theme all day. Cordonte Ayres finished 6th in the 55-meter dash and 6th in the 300. Decatur's Joey Lertora finished 6th in the 500, while Cameron Campbell finished 11th in the 800. The Decatur boys also fared well in the relays with the team of Ayres, Lertora, Dan Cericola and Chris Hurley finishing 7th in the 4x200; and the team of Campbell, Cericola, Lertora and Hurley finishing 5th in the 4x400.
The Decatur boys did exceptionally well in the field events as usual in the state regional meet this week. In the pole vault, Bradley Hollowell finished first and Matt Allenbaugh finished second. Max Hulme tied for third in the high jump, while Michael Hempa finished fifth in the shot put.
On the girls' side, Decatur did well in both the track and field events. Bradley Janson took second in the 500 and sixth in the 800, while Jessica Galuardi finished 5th in the 55-meter hurdles. The Decatur girls also did well in the relays with the team of Carly Bodulus, Lauren Cosgriff, Ravyn Saunders and Janson taking third in the 4x800.
In the 4x200, Jenna Abbaticchio, Annie Brown, Lindsey Miller and Galuardi took 6th, while the team of Brown, Janson, Meghan Potter and Alycia Skarzinski took 6th in the 4x400. In the field events, Janet Davidson finished 5th in the shot put, while Brown finished 8th and Tyesha Dale finished 9th in the high jump.
