Mallards Beat Chincoteague, 38-28

12/11/2009 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep's boys' varsity basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season last week with a 38-28 win over visiting Chincoteague on Monday.

After opening the season with a narrow 37-35 win over Greenwood Mennonite last Tuesday, the Mallards took on old rival Salisbury School on Friday. The Dragons handled Worcester in the early season match-up of Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) heavyweights, downing the Mallards 51-34.

Worcester rebounded on Monday, however, with a 38-28 win over visiting Chincoteague. Alex Ternahan led the Mallards with a double-double including 10 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Butler was also all over the floor, pitching in eight points and grabbing six steals.

The Mallards were back on the floor last night for another home game against Holly Grove in a game played too late to be included in this edition. Worcester will host its Invitational Tournament tomorrow, which will include a three-team round robin tournament with three games beginning at 10 a.m. The Mallards will play Wesleyan in its first match at 11:30 a.m.
