Women Leaders Nominees Sought

3/25/2011 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN -- The newest campaign in the ongoing The Dispatch’s Shore Stars program is currently underway, as “Women Leaders” nominees are now being sought.

The Dispatch’s Shore Stars was born earlier this year as a way to honor and recognize leading citizens in the community. Three individual campaigns will take place each year.

The first campaign, “Charitable Souls,” recognized 20 men and 20 women on the front lines of volunteer work on the shore. “Charitable Souls” will be an annual campaign, but two other themes will be chosen each year.

Along with the current “Women Leaders” campaign, Publisher/Editor J. Steven Green said a program shining the light on “Young Professionals” will be held this fall.

Green said Monday the “Women Leaders” campaign is now gearing up and is currently in the critical nomination process.

“What we are doing with this campaign is seeking to honor community leaders in Worcester, Wicomico and Sussex counties who just happen to be extraordinary women as well,” Green said. “So far, we have a number of local female business owners nominated as well as ladies who are involved in civic life, education, police work, health care and many other fields. It’s a diverse group of women, and that’s what we like. We hope to top the 100 mark for nominations by the deadline. That’s the amount of nominees we had for the Charitable Souls event, providing an excellent and diverse group of recipients.”

According to Green, the nomination deadline is Wednesday, March 30. All nominees will then be notified by the first of next month.

The Women Leaders campaign is being sponsored by Park Place Jewelers, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Bartash Printing and The Dispatch.

All the honorees will be announced in The Dispatch on Friday, April 22. A special publication profiling the honorees will be published in May and an upscale cocktail party and awards ceremony will be held in early June.

To nominate a deserving woman for the campaign, contact Green at editor@mdcoastdispatch.com or call 410-641-4561. The individual’s name and a brief description is all that’s needed.
