Beach Lax Seeking Players, Volunteers

1/28/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN- The Beach Lacrosse Club, a volunteer organization that has been around for 18 years and has introduced thousands of young players to the game, is now accepting applications for its spring program.

Beach Lacrosse is seeking boys and girls for several teams at various age and skill levels including under-9, under-11, under-13, and under-15. There is also a “scoopers” program where children as young as six years old can begin to learn the basics of lacrosse. The club belongs to the Eastern Shore Youth Athletic Association and plays against teams from programs all over the shore including Salisbury, Cambridge, Easton, Kent Island, Denton and Lewes, for example.

Practices are set to begin in the beginning of March. Practices and all home games are held at the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex in Berlin. Games, which are held on Saturdays throughout the spring, are set to begin on March 26. In addition, Beach Lacrosse also participates in post-season tournaments in June in hotbeds like Baltimore and Annapolis and also hosts its own highly successful tournament in Ocean City each year.

Parents can register their players at www.beachlax.org. Beach Lacrosse is also actively seeking volunteer coaching assistance at all age levels as well as volunteers for various activities that support the club. Anyone interested in helping out and volunteering can contact the club at beachlacrosse@yahoo.com.

They ought to try doing a lacrosse 7's tourney for the younger players just to get them more touches and to make the whole thing more fun. Something like the Lacock LC's Scarecrow 7's ( http://lacrosselacock.bravehost.com/ ) would be particularly cool.
