BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team rode a big 6-0 first half scoring binge to edge Bayside North power Easton at home on Monday.
The Seahawks scored less than a minute into the game on a goal by Annie Brown to take a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Kayla Terlizzi scored to give Decatur a 2-0 lead. Easton responded with two goals of its own to tie the game at 2-2. Decatur hung on to a 3-2 for several minutes before Decatur went on a 6-0 scoring binge about halfway through the first half to take control of the game.
Erin Florek started the big run with a goal off an assist by Ashley Trice to give Decatur a 3-2 lead. Layla Fowler then took over the game for several minutes, scoring three times to push the lead to 7-2, Elizabeth Anderson finished off the big rally with a goal to extend the lead to 8-2. Easton did not roll over, however, and cut the lead to 9-5 at the half.
The Warriors came out firing early in the second half, scoring twice to cut the lead to 9-7 and make it a game again. Decatur responded, however, and pushed the lead back to four goals at 11-7. The two teams swapped goals late in the second as Decatur hung on for the 13-9 win to improve to 5-3. The Seahawks face Easton again on the road this afternoon.
