Blazer, Seahawks Set Swim Records

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's young swimming team earned a split with host Cape Henlopen this week, with the boys winning their meet and the girls dropping theirs, but it was the latter that made the biggest splash on Tuesday.

The Seahawk boys' team beat the Vikings on Tuesday behind a strong performance by Stephen Kosicki, who won the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:48:42, and Garrett Neville, who won the 100-breast stroke with a winning time of 1:19:31. For the boys' team, the win over Cape Henlopen continued a run of success in just the second year of the sport at Decatur.

Decatur's girls' team lost to Cape Henlopen in total points, but the young Seahawks continued their assault on their own record book.

Granted, it is just the second year for the swimming program at Decatur and the first as an officially sanctioned sport, but the Seahawks set four new school records during the loss to Cape Henlopen on Tuesday and Taylor Blazer had a hand in each of them.

The Seahawks' 200-medley relay team, which included Blazer, Krysten Wolinski, Breanna Carroll and Catelin Geiser set a new school record with a time of 2:06:02. In addition, Decatur's 400-freestyle relay team of Blazer, Geiser, Carroll and Katie Hanson also set a new school record with a time of 4:04:25.

For Blazer, the new school records on the relay teams were just the start of what turned out to be an epic day. She also set a new school record in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:08:57, and the 100-freestyle with a time of 57:01.
