Decatur Fall Teams Prep for States

10/28/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- With their collective regular seasons in the books, the Decatur fall sports teams are now preparing for the state playoffs after the brackets were announced this week.

Before the Decatur boys’ varsity soccer team took the field for the Bayside Conference championship game on Monday night, they had already been announced as the top seed in the state’s Class 3A-East tournament. With the number-one seed, the Seahawks earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the game between Atholton (8) and River Hill (9) in the second round. Reservoir is the second seed in the 3A-East bracket, while Bennett, the only team to beat Decatur this year, is seeded third.

The Decatur girls’ varsity soccer team was seeded third in the 3A-East region when the tournament brackets were released on Monday. The Seahawks have a first-round bye and will play the winner of the game between Wilde Lake (6) and Howard (11). River Hill is the top seed in the region, while Centennial is seeded second.

The Decatur field hockey team is seeded sixth in the 3A-East bracket and will also get a first-round bye. The Seahawks will play third-seeded Annapolis in the second round.
