Fischbeck Named New OP Golf Pro

1/18/2008 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

OCEAN PINES- Seasoned PGA professional Sean Fischbeck was named the new golf pro at the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club last week, becoming the third to hold the position in a year.

Fischbeck, a veteran golfer and course administrator, comes to Pines from the golf courses at the Glen Riddle community, where he served as head pro and general manager. He replaces former Ocean Pines golf pro Steve Reeves, who resigned in December after seven months on the job. Reeves replaced long-time Ocean Pines pro Bob Beckelman, who stepped down from the position last February.

Fischbeck was chosen from a field of several applicants for the position, according to Ocean Pines Association general manager Tom Olson. The community received several responses from all over the mid-Atlantic region, but Fischbeck was ultimately chosen because of experience on the golf course and as an administrator.

'Sean's skill sets stood out as a good fit for Ocean Pines, particularly because of his skills as a pro and his high profile in promoting golf on the Eastern Shore,' said Olson. 'We look forward to having Sean contribute to our efforts to develop outside play, membership growth and showcasing our great course among the golfing communities.'

The Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club opened in 1971. It was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Fischbeck, who began his duties at the Pines course last week, said he looked forward to the opportunity and expected the transition to be a smooth one.

'I was excited to learn this position had become available,' he said. 'I've watched the great progress in course upgrades and planning that the golf management team has done over the past few years and was anxious to become part of this dynamic effort. The appointment gives me an opportunity to showcase my talents and help generate course revenues and apply my skills at one of the finest courses on the Eastern Shore.'

Meanwhile, the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club has kicked off its 2008 membership campaign with a 16-month program that starts immediately and provides new members with an opportunity to play right through April 2009. The course is open to the public. For more information, contact the pro shop at (410) 641-6057.
