Half Marathon Kick-Off Event Held

2/12/2010 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

WEST OCEAN CITY- Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services (WYFCS) and the Ocean City Half-Marathon promoters held a special registration kick-off event last week at the Greene Turtle in West Ocean City.

During the event, 20 runners registered to join Team GOWOYO, which will 'run for a reason' during the half-marathon and 5K race on April 24. Each member of the group has pledged to raise a minimum of $250 to benefit the many programs at WYFCS. Participants can choose between the 13.2-mile half marathon or the 5K, both of which begin at the Ocean City Inlet with the half-marathon continuing through West Ocean City and ending at Assateague Island.

Members of the GOWOYO team are being offered free team training by professional coaches. Members of the community are urged to join Team GOWOYO by running in the event or by sponsoring a participant to stomp out child abuse, neglect and suffering in the community. For more information, contact WYFCS at (410) 641-4598, or email stefaniegordy@gmail.com, or visit the marathon website at www.octrirunning.com.
