Seahawks Finish Strong in Bayside Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams turned in strong performances during last week’s Bayside Conference meet with dozens of top place finishers in nearly every event.

On the men’s side, in the 100-meter, James Mapp finished third, Jakhai Woodard was fifth and Tayevon Mills was seventh. In the 200, Dishon Elliott finished fifth, Mills was sixth and Sonny Aroh was seventh. Decatur’s Christopher David finished first in the 400, while Daniel Winters was second. David finished second in the 800, while Lance Ward was third and Winters was fourth.

In the 1,600, Ward finished first, while Ben Rakowski was fifth and Kevin Herbert was eighth. Decatur’s Nick Molitor finished first in the 3,200, while Rakowski was fifth and Herbert was seventh. In the 110-meter hurdles, Decatur’s Greg Petersen was fourth, Spenser Cardenas was fifth, Lucas Duker was sixth and Tyler Coppinger was eighth. Petersen finished first in the 300 hurdles, while Cardenas was third, Coppinger was eighth and Duker was ninth.

The Decatur boys finished strong in the relays, collecting a first in the 4x400, a first in the 4x800, a second in the 4x200 and a second in the 4x100. In the high jump, Petersen was first, Duker was third and Cameron Gaynor was fourth. Tashawn Collins was second in the pole vault, while Aroh finished third. In the long jump, Cardenas was fifth and James Phillips was 10th. Finally, in the triple jump, it was Petersen finishing first, Cardenas in fifth, Gaynor in sixth and Duker in ninth.

On the girls side, Rebecca Lederman finished third in the 100. Lederman also finished second in the 200. Chloe FauntLeroy was first in the 400, while Rayvn Saunders was second. FaunLeroy was also first in the 800, while Rayvn Saunders was third and Elizabeth Rougcher was sixth.

Lauren Buckman was third in the 1,600, while Jenn Abbaticchio was fourth and Alexandra Tushup was sixth. In the 3,200, Buckman was first, Anastasia Priest was fourth and Tushup was fifth. In the 100 hurdles, Jessica Galuardi was first, Emily Kolarik was third and Bianca Alvarado was ninth. Galuardi finished sixth in the 300 hurdles, while Alvarado was seventh and Kolarik was ninth.

The Decatur girls also did well in the relays, finishing first in the 4x400, first in the 4x800, second in the 4x200 and second in the 4x100. In the high jump, Purnell was first, Alexandra Saunders was second and Hannah Wilson was seventh. Ashley Hrebik finished first in the pole vault, while Christine Timko was second. In the long jump, Purnell was first, Buckman was second, Shakirra Collick was sixth and Tiarah Waters was seventh. Purnell also finished first in the triple jump, while Alexandra Saunders was second.
