BERLIN- Worcester Prep's girls' varsity basketball team won a nail-biter on Tuesday, edging host Seaford Christian, 44-43, on a free throw by freshman standout Kelly Chandler with two seconds remaining in overtime.
Chandler came to line with two seconds left in overtime and the score tied at 43-43 and calmly made one of two free throws to propel the Mallards to the dramatic victory. Chandler, who was the catalyst for Worcester the entire game finished with 20 points and six steals, while Michelle Wangel finished with eight points for the Mallards.
The win was the third in the last four for the Worcester girls, who beat Gunston, 48-34, last Friday. The Mallards' record now stands at 5-8 on the season, but the girls have gone 5-3 in a recent string of games after starting the season 0-5.
