Friday, July 31--Area Fugitive Remains At Large

BERLIN - More details emerged this week in the search for a Berlin man, wanted by local authorities and U.S. Marshal's, who remained at large this week after a massive, multi-agency manhunt throughout the area late last week.

Last Wednesday, Worcester County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Logtown Rd. in Berlin for a reported burglary and theft. During the course of the investigation, a Sheriff's deputy located a pick-up truck parked on a dirt trail off the main road and encountered a white male later identified as Robert Lee Miller, Jr., 37, of Berlin, sitting in the vehicle.

While being interviewed by police, Miller, who has a long history of run-ins with the law in Worcester County, was able to flee into the woods near the Worcester-Wicomico county line. An intense multi-agency manhunt was launched both on the ground and in the air involving Worcester County Sheriff's deputies, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police and Maryland State Police Aviation, but the search proved fruitless.

Late last week, the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) took over the case and continued the investigation. As of mid-week, Miller remained at large and the investigation into his possible whereabouts continued. WCBI detective were able to obtain a District Court arrest warrant for Miller charging him with first-degree burglary and felony theft for the incident last week that triggered the search.

During the investigation, it was determined Miller was also wanted by U.S. Marshals on federal charges. A check of federal court records showed Miller was convicted in 2003 on charges of a felon in possession of ammunition and was sentenced to over four years in jail followed by three years of supervised probation including six months of home detention. In December 2008, Miller was arrested in Worcester on several charges including driving under the influence, driving while impaired, negligent driving, and driving on a suspended license among others. That arrest violated the terms of his parole and probation in the federal ammunitions possession case, which triggered the federal warrant.

Miller is listed at 5'7' tall and around 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue or gray-colored shorts, a white T-shirt and a dark-colored button-down shirt.

WCBI officials this week urged anyone with information regarding Miller's location or any possible sightings of the suspect to contact the county sheriff's offices at 410-623-1111, the Maryland State Police at 410-641-3101 or Crime Solvers at 410-548-1776. A reward may be offered if any information given leads to Miller's apprehension.
