BERLIN - Excessive speed is being blamed for a fatal, single-vehicle accident on Assateague Rd. at its intersection with Route 611 last Sunday that claimed the life of a local man.
According to the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 8 p.m. last Sunday, a vehicle driven by Robert A. Constant, 45, of Berlin, was traveling east on Assateague Rd. as it approached the intersection with Route 611. Constant was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he drove through a stop sign at the intersection, crossed the yellow line, left the roadway and struck a tree, according to the sheriff's office.
Police and emergency services responded to the scene and transported Constant to PRMC in Salisbury where he was pronounced dead. According to the sheriff's office, excessive speed appears to have caused the accident although it is still under investigation
