Decatur Girls Win Bayside Championship

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track and field teams did well in the Bayside Championships last week with the girls’ team finishing first and the boys’ team finishing a close second.

The Decatur girls, led by strong performances in the field events, finished the Bayside Championship meet with 167 total team points, while Kent Island was second with 130.5 and Queen Anne’s was third with 77. Katrina Purnell led the Seahawks with several first place finishes including the high jump, the long jump and the triple jump. Alexandra Saunders was second in the high jump and Lauren Buckman was second in the long jump.

Decatur’s Kacie Moore was first in the pole vault, while Ashley Hrebik was second. In the shot put, Ameerah Lewis finished fourth, Antonia Green was sixth and Erika Henry was seventh. Henry also finished fourth in the discus.

In the 100, Decatur’s Rebecca Lederman finished third and also finished fifth in the 200. Ravyn Saunders was fourth in the 400 and sixth in the 800, while Chloe FauntLeroy was third in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600. Jenna Abbaticchio was third in the 3,200, while Anastasia Priest was fifth and Buckman was sixth.

Jessica Galuardi was strong in the hurdles events, finished second in the 100 and fifth in the 300. The Decatur girls also ran well in the relays, finishing second in the 4x800, third in the 4x200 and third in the 4x100.

On the boys’ side, Decatur finished second in the Bayside Championships with 136 team points, just behind Queen Anne’s with 148. Parkside was third. In the 100, Jakhai Woodard was sixth, while Chris David finished second in the 400 and Dan Winters finished seventh. Lance Ward came in eighth in the 800 and Winters finished sixth. Nick Molitor finished fourth in both the 1,600 and the 3,200, while Ward was sixth in the 1,600.

Greg Petersen came in second in the 110 hurdles, while Spenser Cardenas was fifth. Cardenas also finished fifth in the 300 hurdles. In the relays, Decatur finished first in the 4x800, second in the 4x400, third in the 4x200 and fifth in the 4x100.

In the field events, Petersen was first in the high jump, while Lucas Duker was second and Cameron Gaynor was third. Zach Watters was third in the pole vault and Sonny Aroh was sixth. Woodard was third in the long jump and Cardenas was sixth. Petersen was sixth in the triple jump and Cardenas was seventh. Nick Craven was fifth in the shot put, while Tyheam Purnell was sixth. Purnell was also fifth in the discus.
