BERLIN- If nothing else, Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team has shown a flair for the dramatic this season with a narrow 51-50 loss to Washington last week, followed by a 59-53 overtime win over county rival Snow Hill on Tuesday.
Last week, the Seahawks battled with Washington tooth and nail before falling, 51-50. Abby Schorr led the Seahawks with 20 points, while Katie Purnell pitched in 15. On Tuesday, the Decatur girls traveled to Snow Hill for another nail-biter.
After regulation ended in a tie, the Seahawks pulled away and escaped with a 59-53 overtime win over the Eagles, Again, the red-hot Schorr led Decatur with a double-double including 23 points and 21 rebounds. Marina Jones scored 18 for Decatur, while Snow Hill’s Shequan Bailey led all scorers with 33 points.
