BERLIN- The 2nd Annual Terri Ford Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament was held this week at the Links at Lighthouse Sound with thousands of dollars raised benefiting a cause near and dear to the resort community.
Roughly 30 teams turned out for the second annual event on Monday and opened their wallets and their hearts for the cause. Much of the proceeds from Monday's tournament will go directly to the family of popular local Rob Chandler, also known as DJ Wax, whose now 16-year-old son Kameron Chandler continues his battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the blood.
For the record, the winning foursome included Chuck and Nancy Dufflemeyer, Sarah Crosby and Jason Gulshen, who combined on a 56, or 16 under par. The second-place foursome included Ben Cooper, Jeff Chernis, Jim Shugart and Dave Stearn.
Among the items auctioned were several autographed professional sports jerseys along with autograph pictures, bats, balls and other memorabilia donated by the Jersey Boyz including an autographed Joe Flacco jersey and an autographed Chris Cooley jersey. Although the exact amount raised during the event has not been finalized, last year's tournament raised over $6,000 and event organizers estimate that total might have been doubled or even tripled this year.
