King Leads Seahawks' Dramatic Comeback

BERLIN- The Berlin Pop Warner Seahawks took two important games from the Cape Sharks in Lewes last weekend with the mighty-mites rolling to a 20-0 win and the Pee Wees winning a 34-18 thriller with three touchdowns in the last three minutes of the game.

In the Pee Wee game, Cape scored on its first possession of the second half to extend its lead to 18-6, but Josh King returned the ensuing kick-off 80 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 18-12. Berlin trailed by six points with three minutes left in the game and Cape had the ball before the dramatic finale.

Berlin's Logan Smith caused a Cape fumble deep in Seahawk territory and Berlin recovered. On the next play, Josh King took a sweep to the left side, followed a wall of blockers including Joe Flounlacker, Jared King and Cody Smith and took it 70 yards for a touchdown to tie the game.

With just over a minute to play, Berlin tried an onside kick which was recovered by R.J. Davis. On the next play, Josh King dashed 49-yards for a touchdown to put the Seahawks ahead for the first time at 24-18 with under a minute remaining, but the late surge by the Seahawks wasn't over yet. Cape made a desperate attempt to tie the game, but who else but Josh King picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown.

When the dust had settled, King had scored all five of his team's touchdowns including three in the last three minutes of the game. The win touched off a wild celebration with the Berlin coaches getting water dumped on them and the Seahawk players carrying Josh King off the field on their shoulders. The come-from-behind win earned Berlin the final playoff spot in the Pee Wee division.

In other good news for the Berlin Pop Warner program, the midget division Seahawks, ages 12-15, reached the playoffs for the first time in their history.
