BERLIN- Pocomoke High School's boys' varsity soccer team completed an improbable run to a fourth straight state Class 1A championship last weekend, rallying to beat Boonsboro, 3-1, to continue a long period of dominance.
The Pocomoke boys had won three straight Class 1A titles dating back to 2005, but struggled at times this season with issues both on and off the field. In the end, however, the Warriors put together a big run at the right time to extend their streak to four straight state championships. The Pocomoke boys have now won four straight state titles from 2005 to 2008.
The Warriors also won state championships in boys' soccer in 2001 and 2003, giving them six titles in the eight years of the decade. All in all, little Pocomoke has now won 28 state championships in various sports, putting them at or near the top in Maryland in terms of collecting titles. The varsity field hockey team last week won its sixth straight state championship and its 16th overall.
